Daily Habits for Optimal Health
With our resident contributor Kinesiologist, Katie Robb
As the summer sun graces us with its warmth and festive cheer envelops the air, we find ourselves on the brink of the holiday season. Amidst the celebrations, it becomes paramount to uphold our daily rituals that foster optimal health and well-being. Ensuring a harmonious transition into the new year involves more than just avoiding those extra holiday pounds; it's about cultivating a sense of balance and tranquility.
Join me as we unwrap a handful of tips—little nuggets of wisdom— to infuse this season with a dose of personal well-being.
EAT FREQUENTLY
Keep your meal frequency up to maintain healthy blood sugar levels. In particular, make sure you are not reaching for the sugar and the quick fix. Continue to nourish your body with a good balance of nutrients.
NO SKIPPING
Don’t skip meals! Maintaining those healthy blood sugar levels is essential for optimal body functioning. If we haven’t eaten enough we are less likely to make sensible decisions.
STAY HYDRATED
In fact we can all be a little better at drinking water. In the warmer weather you need to ensure you are drinking at least 2L of water daily. Try waking up and drinking a glass of water with either a dash of apple cider vinegar or a fresh slice of lemon.
SALTY
A pinch of good quality Himalayan salt into your glass of water can also aid in hydration. Sodium works like a magnet to draw water into cells, which is critical for maintaining hydration.
MOVE
Move your body. Focus on some intentional movement daily. Consider it your personal prescription of medicine, a remedy for both body and soul. As you get that healthy glow on, remember that sweating isn't just a side effect; it's helping your body's powerful detoxification pathways.
SWEATY FEELING
If you do go happen to indulge a little more than expected and are feeling less than perfect, try to do 20-30mins of gentle exercise the next day with light sweating. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… Get sweating!
SUPER SLEEP
Prioritising consistent and quality sleep is essential. During this hectic holiday season, our bodies rely on sleep to restore and regenerate. If your bedtime gets pushed later than usual, consider incorporating a brief 15-20 minute nap to recharge and navigate through the festivities with renewed energy.
Little things done well each day is the key to our health. Success leaves clues so continue to build or start little things you can do each day that will support you through this time of year. Best wishes and remember there is a beautiful healing community you can reach out to if need further support!
